C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\PROOF

sollte Gewissheit verschaffen. Hier gilt es die Dateien

MSSP7GE.DLL
MSSP7GE.dub
MSSP7GE.LX

in den Ordner

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live Writer\Dictionaries

zu kopieren. Nach einem Neustart von Windows Live Writer sollte nun unter Options / Spelling auch der Eintrag German (Reform).

Creative Commons Add-In for Office 2007

The Creative Commons Add-in for Microsoft Office 2007 allows you to embed Creative Commons licenses directly into PowerPoint, Word as well as Excel.

“This add-in enables you to embed a Creative Commons license into a document that you create using Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office PowerPoint, or Microsoft Office Excel. With a Creative Commons license, authors can express their intentions regarding how their works may be used by others. The add-in downloads the Creative Commons license you designate from the Creative Commons Web site and inserts it directly into your creative work.”

Once installed, you’ll find a new tab at your ribbon called Creative Commons. The License button allows you to create a new license for the document.

Creative Commons License Add-in

For me, it was always a pain to browse through the CC licenses to find the appropriate one. The add-in allows you to step through all options:

Select license type dialog

Allow commercial uses dialog

Allow modification dialog

Jurisdiction dialog

Finally, you select the license and assign it to the document. Visuals will be added automatically by the add-in and the license is then downloaded fro the CC web site.

Add/remove license functionality

Added license

Quite nice add-in that gives you some boost in productivity, especially when you deal often with Word and PowerPoint documents you hand out to the public.

Free/Busy Times via Office Online

To keep updated, I am just starting publishing my free/busy times to Office Online. First of all, register with Office Online, this shouldn’t take that long if you have already a Windows Live account.

Select Calendar

Open Outlook and chose the calendar you want to publish by right-clicking it in the task pane.

Publish to Office Online

Now select ‘Publish to Internet’ and then ‘Publish to Office Online…’. After doing some registration you can finally choose the options for publishing the calendar.

Publishing Calendar Options

We are going to choose the granularity of details we want to publish. In my case I choose the  ‘Availability only’ option.

Availability Option

Then I am going to allow everybody to see these availability times. If you are going to publish more details, you might want to consider to share your calendar only with invited users.

Permissions Options

At the end I am going to check the ‘Advanced Options’.

Advanced Options

In this case, I am fine with the automatic uploads. After confirming, the initial upload is performed. In the task pane you’ll now find another icon for your calendar indicating that it is shared.

New Icon for Calendar

Finally, my free/busy times are now available.

Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1: Upgrade

This update finally supports the new file formats of Office 2007 on your mobile device:

To allow Windows Mobile users to work with Office documents created in the Open XML formats, Microsoft has developed an upgrade for Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and PowerPoint Mobile applications. This upgrade to the Office Mobile applications allows viewing and editing of Word documents and Excel workbooks and viewing of PowerPoint slideshows created by using Microsoft Office 2007.

Other improvements include:
• Enhanced viewing experience for charts in Excel Mobile.
• Ability to view SmartArt in PowerPoint Mobile.
• Ability to view and extract files from compressed (.zip) folders.

The update need approximately 7 Mb on your device. Therefore, I would recommend using a memory card for the installation.

Sorting Bullet Lists

Ever stuck in sorting a huge bullet list? One of the 90% unknown Word features.

The Sort Text command can be used to alphabetize lists instantly.

  1. Type a list of names, pressing ENTERafter each name. Your list should look something like:
    • Madeleine Kelly
    • Brian Cox
    • Tamara Johnston
  2. Select the entire list.
  3. On the Table menu, click Sort.
  4. Click Options, click Other, press SPACEBAR and then click OK.
  5. In the Sort by list, click Word 2, and then click OK. Now your list looks like this:
    • Brian Cox
    • Tamara Johnston
    • Madeleine Kelly
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5, but click Word 1 in the Sort by list, and your list will look like this:
    • Brian Cox
    • Madeleine Kelly
    • Tamara Johnston

MAPILap NNTP Profile Reset

After getting a licence and re-installing the MAPILap NNTP Outlook plug-in I was kind of frustrated that the plug-in did not work anymore. Basically I found the reason in the registry settings of the tool. There the account was still disabled since I have chosen this option during a test installation before.

NNTP RegEdit

Just delete the folder with the deactivated profile name. After the next start of Outlook the plug-in wizard appears again.

Some Office Hints

While writing papers, there are some really useful hints you must know. If you write down topics, usually it’s a royal pain on your back always to pick the mouse to choose the Heading 1 formatting. Just press [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[1] to [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[3] to mark the lines as a heading. Unfortunately this doesn’t work for Heading 4.

Another great thing is the rand macro. Sometimes it is useful to have some arbitrary text between all the headings which make the structure of you document. Just type in =rand() for some paragraphs of text or =rand(2) if you want exact two paragraphs. Of course you can choose any other number as well.

Word provides you some text to fill your empty space:

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
